Melody Funk began her stage, television and recording career with her family, The Funk Family Singers. She augmented her talents through dance; ballet, tap Irish step dancing, clogging and ballroom dance. She became an accomplished oboist, that took her to All State and All Northwest, which helped her earn a full ride scholarship to Mt. Hood Community College. Vocally, she attended the National Jazz Educators Conference where she recorded an album with Stan Kenton.
Melody began her career as a bassist in 1980. She has recorded and performed with Jeff Lorber, Kenny G, John Mayall, Merilee Rush and Michael Powers. She has been active in theatre, performing in productions of the Fanasticks, Phantom of the Opera, West Side Story, Fiddler On the Roof, Cats and Les Miserable. She helped establish the Orcas Center for the Performing Arts on Orcas Island.
She has performed for corporate, fund raising, sporting and other special events with the Fred Schactler Bands, including a season as the bassist for the Seattle Seahawk Band with the Blues Brothers.
Melody's cruise ship experience includes Argosy Cruises, America West Steamboat Co., Norwegian Cruiselines, Princess Cruises and B.C. Stena Lines.
She is currently performing in the Seattle, Washington area with the John Groves Jazz Combo and has a full time teaching schedule with students in voice, oboe and bass.
